Management of treatment and education of children with autism

Project: Regulating the Treatment and Education for Children with Autism: Legislative Recommendations Through Surveys in Ha Noi, Nghe An and Ho Chi Minh City

Purpose

Overall objective: The Initiative aims to propose a legal framework on the regulation of the treatment and education for children with autism in Viet Nam. In order to build a solid basis to identify the need and contents of regulating the treatment and education for children with autism, the Initiative will carry out field research in Hanoi, Nghe An and Ho Chi Minh City. These localities are chosen because autism intervention facilities are mainly located in big cities, and this ensures the regional representation.

Specific objectives: The Project aims to achieve the following specific objectives:

- Comparative study of laws and policies on the regulation of the treatment and education for children with autism in some countries and Viet Nam, thereby drawing policy implications for Viet Nam.

- An assessment of law implementation through survey data on the status of licensing and regulating intervention facilities for children with autism in Ha Noi, Nghe An, and Ho Chi Minh City.

- Capacity building for policy beneficiaries, including associations of parents of children with autism, caregivers, and professionals

- Proposing legislative recommendations on regulating the treatment and education for children with autism, and measures to raise public awareness of autism, anti-discrimination.
